Margarete Hendrickson, 70, passed peacefully into eternal life January 2, 2018, after a 2-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gary; sister Helen McIntyre (Raymond); nephews Kevin McIntyre and James R. Schneider Jr.; nieces Jennifer Hinrichsen (Eric) and Elizabeth Meyer (Dylan); great nephews Kai McIntyre, Kaden Meyer, and Jack Hinrichsen; and great niece Briana Meyer. Margarete is preceded in death by her parents John and Margit Schneider and brothers John Schneider Jr. and James R. Schneider Sr.(wife Laurette)
 
Margarete was born in Germany in 1947, emigrated to the US with her family in 1952 living in Cleveland and Auburn, Ohio. Margarete and Gary moved to Chicago in 1978, and then to Fort Lauderdale in 2012 to be closer to her mother, sister and brother.  
 
Margarete was a graduate of Kenston High School in Bainbridge, Ohio, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, earning a degree in English. She retired from Northwestern University after 20 years as Administrator of the Mathematics Department and Business Manager of a community outreach division of the Northwestern School of Medicine Psychiatry Department.
 
Margarete enjoyed gardening and served as a volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Garden for many years. She was also a member of the Art Institute of Chicago with an interest in painting. Margarete especially enjoyed music and sang soprano in her church choir in Evanston, with the North Shore Choral Society in Evanston, and with the Nova Singers in Fort Lauderdale. She enjoyed reading, and particularly loved her golden retrievers Candy and Rosie. Margarete became a sailor and enjoyed being on the water with Gary on their sailboat at the Racine Yacht Club on Lake Michigan.
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10th, at 11:00 a.m. , at Christ Church United Methodist, 4845 N.E. 25th. Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Donations in Margarete’s memory can be made to The Lazarex Cancer Foundation, Danville CA.  Details can be found at www.lazarex.org.
