Tribute

Andrew C. Johnson (Andy) age 47, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 22, 2021 in Pompano Beach, Florida. He was born on November 2, 1974 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Andy is survived by his mother, Deborah A. Karlson; stepfather, Richard Karlson; brother, Joseph C. Johnson (Lindy); sister, Chrystal Johnson; uncle, David Johnson (Linda); aunt, Linda Hunter; ex-wife, Stacy Obetts; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was close to his niece, Brooklynn McNitt, and enjoyed spending time with his nephews Charlie and Sam. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis C. Johnson, and his maternal and fraternal grandparents.

Andy was born and raised in West Michigan and played JV and Varsity Football for Northview High School. He worked in information technology there for many years. Andy was an avid sports enthusiast that loved the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and especially University of Michigan football. He shared his love of Michigan football with his Mom and Uncle David and they enjoyed many games together over the years at The Big House rooting for the Maize and Blue.  Andy also had so many great times deep sea fishing in Florida with his stepdad, who he lovingly called “Richie,” and his best friend and “Little Buddy” Matt.

Andy’s quick wit and fun-loving nature made him many friends throughout the country but his deepest roots were with his family of friends in Michigan whom he loved and who will miss him dearly. Andy was a devoted dog lover to his Pekingese, Bo and Brady. His warmth, humor and laughter will be missed by so many.

The family plans a memorial and celebration of his life to be held in the Spring 2022 in Andy’s hometown. The family requests that donations in his name be made to the Kent County Humane Society or the ASPCA.
