Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Bernard Thomas Budd, went to the House of the Lord on April 27, 2022 at the age of 92. He was born on January 13, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas to William Laverne Budd and Marcella Katherine Budd (Flannery). He was a dedicated and loving husband and patriarch to his 60 surviving family members, while also faithfully serving his country and the community.
Bernard is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mitzi Budd (Gray) and his adoring family and will be lovingly missed by them all. These 60 surviving family members include his 10 children and their spouses: Michael Budd, Becky and John Stocker, Mark and Kim Doyle Budd, Brian Budd, Mary Beth Budd, Melanie and Brad Hansel, Bridget and Robert Cross, Bruce Budd, Michelle and Bill Munch and Melissa and Jim Greene. Bernie also is survived by his devoted 29 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
His dedication to community service began after graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering where he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His work experience included being an Assistant City Engineer in Eldorado, KS; City Engineer and later City Manager of Parsons, KS; Partner in the LaForge & Budd Construction Co. Parsons, KS; Plant Manager, Parsons, KS and later Executive Vice President for Zimmer Homes Corp., Pompano Beach, FL; Executive Vice President at Kings Point Housing Corp, Delray Beach, FL; and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hollywood Inc, Hollywood, FL. His community involvement also included being on the Board of the Honda Classic and Orange Bowl Committee.
