Calvin Clark

May 14, 1929 ~ November 29, 2022 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Calvin Clark, Jr., 93, went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2022, in Lauderhill, Florida. He was born in Camden, South Carolina on May 14, 1929. His father, Calvin Clark, Sr., was a sharecropper at the time. His mother, Leola Clark, died shortly after giving birth to Calvin, Jr. His father re-married twice, making Calvin the third eldest of eleven siblings. Calvin grew up on his family farm before leaving for the big city lights of New York. Along the way, he served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. Calvin joined the New York City Police Department in 1956, and after 30 years of dutiful service in both the NYPD and New York Naval Reserves, he retired as a lieutenant from the NYPD and as an electrician’s mate first class from the New York Naval Reserves in 1986.

Calvin was affectionately known as “Sharky” by family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who had a big smile and an infectious laugh. Everyone who spoke to him felt welcomed as he shared a farmer’s patience, a warm smile and timely wisdom. Sharky’s love and unforgettable smile will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.

Sharky is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Leila; his sisters, Bertha Williams, Mary Spann, Dorothy "Dot" Allen (spouse, Thomas), Ida “Belle” McEachern (spouse, George) and Carolyn Cannon (spouse, Robert); his children, Calvert, Philip, Gregory, Frederick, Juanita, Wilfredo, Carmen, Edwin (spouse, Grace), Kenyatta, Shalima, and Shaloze; and 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 19, 2022, at Saint Benedict's Episcopal Church in Plantation, Florida, and interment at the Lake Worth National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
