Charles Corson Highley, Jr , was born in Newark, New Jersey to Charles C Highley and Anna Turnbull Highley. Charley grew up in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and Spring Lake, New Jersey. He attended Lawrenceville Prep School where he excelled in football and tennis. At the age of 17, Charley enlisted in the Marines Corp and proudly served his country during WW II. Charley served in the Marine Corp, during the Pacific Theater in Hawaii and Guam and was a Marine MP during the American Occupation of Japan.

Upon returning from overseas, Charley attended and graduated from Princeton University. Charley continued his great success on the tennis courts and played tennis for the Princeton Tigers.

Upon graduating from Princeton, Charley returned to Glen Ridge and worked for his father’s coal and oil business in Newark, NJ. He became a security analyst and managed the family’s business.

On February 28, 1953, Charley married Diane Beatty Highley. They moved to Wellesley, MA. After a few years in Wellesley, Charley and Diane moved to Spring Lake where they raised their 4 children, Jennifer, Chuck, Matthew and Robert.

Charley became quite the golf legend and continued his tennis and golf success for the next 70 years. He was a member of Montclair Golf Club, Glen Ridge Country Club, Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, Sea View Country Club, Coral Ridge Country Club, Ft. Lauderdale Golf Club, and Coral Ridge Yacht Club.

Charley holds numerous golf records at his home course in Spring Lake, New Jersey. He won his first Club Championship in 1957 and captured the Club Championship for a total of 13 times. Charley’s championship record at Spring Lake Golf Club spread over a forty-three year period, beginning in 1957 and ending with his last club championship in1976. Added to these were championships at Montclair Golf Club, Coral Ridge Country Club, the prestigious North and South Super Seniors Tournament at Pinehurst, two New Jersey State Senior Championships and the Florida State Super Seniors Championship.

Charles Corson Highley, Jr is survived by his wife of 65 years, Diane Beatty Highley, his four children, Jennifer Eardley, Charles Lloyd Highley and his fiancé Linda LeMonte, Matthew Willaim Highley and Robert Harrison Highley and his Wife Yomar Highley. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lauren Highley, Anna Highley, Charles Corson Highley III, Solansch Highley, Bethany Highley, Dionne Highley and Elizabeth Eardley.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 27th. from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the Baird-Case Jordan-Fannin Funeral Home, 4343 N Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308
