Darrell Everett Finlayson

August 29, 1943 ~ November 16, 2019 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Darrell Everett Finlayson ended his journey on earth at the age of 76 on November 16, 2019 in hospice care at Holy Cross hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after battling a long term illness.  He was living with his spouse, Timothy Richardson, at their home in Wilton Manors, Florida at the time of his passing.
Darrell was born in Montreal, Canada, on August 29, 1943 to Darrell Frederick Finlayson and Phyllis Muriel Finlayson (Alexander), who preceded him in death.  After high school, Darrell travelled through Europe for a year before returning to Canada.  He ran his own antique business in Montreal for a number of years.  Darrell then worked as an Account Managing Director for Dun & Bradstreet in Montreal for several years before moving permanently to Florida.  He worked as a Sales Representative and was designated Chief Management Agitator for Burdines and Macy’s for over 20 years before retiring in 2010.  Darrell met Timothy in 2008 and they were married on September 19, 2015 at their home.  Darrell loved to travel, and especially loved crossing the Atlantic on the QE2 and Queen Mary 2, where he made countless friends from all over the world.  Darrell was blessed with the gift of gab and would share his stories with any stranger who would listen.  His stories would often have several obscure tangents, which led to his being nicknamed ‘The Riddler’.  Darrell had an impact on most people he met and it seems that everyone has their ‘Darrell story’ to tell future generations.  He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his husband, Timothy, his sister Jean Clarke of Wellington, Ontario, his sister Joy Vokey and husband Dave of Bath, Ontario, his nephew Dan Vokey and wife Laura and their sons Frederick and Lyle of Odessa, Ontario, his nephew Shane Vokey and Linda Guay and their son William of Kingston, Ontario, and numerous cousins.  He is also survived by:  parents-in-law Billy K and Wilma Jean Richardson of Junction City, KS; brother in-law Gregory Richardson and Gina of Tulsa, OK and their children Arien Beemer & Jeff and 3 children of Abilene, KS, Kyle Richardson of Wilton Manors, FL, & Lindsey Richardson and 2 children of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law Ginger Delker and Bill of Cotopaxi, CO and their sons Tyler of Denver, CO and Ethan of Salina, KS; sister-in-law Patricia Felts of Abilene, KS and her children Jessica Opat-Szapacs and 3 children of Omaha, NE, Joshua Opat and son of Manhattan, KS, and Alex Felts of Junction City, KS; brother-in-law Billy G Richardson and his partner Paul Winters of St Michaels, Maryland.
The family and friends of Darrell will gather for a Celebration of Life on Jan 11, 2020 at the Pride Center, 2040 N Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors, FL from 2-5pm, followed by a reception at the home of Timothy.
