I was just informed today of Don's passing. Was this really my friend Don Norred, whom I met in 1983, my former softball teammate in Atlanta, my teammate on Atlanta's softball team that went to Gay Games III in Vancouver and came home with the gold medal? I'm so sorry to learn of Don's passing. He was a gentle soul, always displaying sportsmanship to teammates and opponents alike.

May I share my favorite Don Norred softball anecdote? Don was playing third base for us one day and he was having a terrible day fielding. Finally the coach took him out of the game and put in someone else to play third base. That particular individual made an error on the first ball hit to him, whereupon Don's partner Ray said "He screwed up third base so bad no one can play it." Everyone laughed, but Don laughed harder than anyone. There was no ego or pretentiousness in him at all.
