Guillermo H. Ramos

Guillermo H. Ramos, age 66, of Albany, New York, passed away on March 20, 2021. Guillermo was originally from Piura, Peru. He attended the University of Piura where he graduated in 1975 with a BS in Industrial Engineering. After graduation he completed his postgraduate studies in Terni, Italy.

On February 14th 1981, he married Blanca Cecilia Cedano, his loving wife of 40 years. He always said that Blanca chose that date so he would never forget it. They had two children, “Los Gemos”, Manuel Guillermo and Cecilia Patricia. In 1987, after being accepted to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to study a master’s degree, the family relocated to Albany, NY where he was hired by the NYS Department of Transportation after his graduation.

Guillermo worked for over 26 years for the Department of Transportation in different capacities until 2016 when he retired. His work ethic, principles and passion for his work are still remembered in his office. He played soccer with the “over 40” league in Guilderland, NY for many years. While he may not have been the fastest runner, he knew how to find the right place to make incredible goals and always enjoyed a good post-game party.

After his retirement, Guillermo and Blanca traveled to many countries around the world including many visits to Peru to see their family. They loved spending their summers at their lake house in Wynantskill, NY and their winters by the beach in Lauderdale-By-The Sea, FL. His passion was home improvement, his favorite store was Home Depot where he knew the store layout better than the associates who worked there. Family and friends would always look to him for advice. He will be forever known as a gracious party host, grill master, and mixologist of the best pisco sours.

In May of 2020, Guillermo was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and he fought a courageous battle against this terrible disease for 10-months. We thank the staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA for their incredible care and support during this time. A very special thank you to Dr. Sigurdis Haraldsdottir (Dr. Sisi) for her valuable expertise and dedication to Guillermo and his family. Lastly, a heartfelt thanks to Guillermo’s “niece”, Dr. Stacy Cooper of Baltimore, MD who provided loving guidance and consultation every step of the way.

Guillermo is survived by his wife Blanca, son Manuel and daughter-in-law Rita of Golden, Colorado, and daughter Cecilia and son-in-law Bill Cooper of North Andover, Massachusetts. Papa G will be greatly missed by his 5 grandchildren Amelia Ramos, Benson Manuel Cooper, Leo Guillermo Cooper, Antonio Ramos and Diego Ramos. Let’s not forget Guillermo’s loyal Westie, his “compinche” Roderick “Rocky” Ramos. Guillermo’s memory will be cherished by siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Guillermo, our dear Gallinazo, Galli, Guille, Memo, Papa G, big G will live forever in our hearts. Rest in peace dear Guillermo!

A private memorial service will be held at Baird-Case Jordan-Fannin Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale, FL. on Friday, March 26, 2021. The service will be live streamed for all family and friends.

Guillermo H. Ramos, de 66 años, de Albany, Nueva York, falleció el 20 de Marzo de 2021. Guillermo nació en Piura, Perú. Asistió a la Universidad de Piura donde se graduó en 1975 con un Bachillerato en Ingeniería Industrial. Después de su graduación, completó estudios de posgrado en Terni, Italia.

El 14 de febrero de 1981 se casó con Blanca Cecilia Cedano, su amada esposa durante 40 años. Siempre decía que Blanca eligió esa fecha para que él nunca la olvidara. Tuvieron dos hijos, “los Gemos”, Manuel Guillermo y Cecilia Patricia. En 1987, después de ser aceptado en el Instituto Politécnico de Rensselaer, NY, para hacer una Maestría en Ingeniería y Gerencia, la familia se mudó a Albany, Nueva York, donde fue contratado por el Departamento de Transportes del Estado de Nueva York después de su graduación.

Guillermo trabajó durante más de 26 años para el Departamento de Transportes en diferentes posiciones hasta el año 2016 cuando se jubiló. Su ética, principios y pasión por su trabajo aún se recuerdan en su oficina. Él también jugó fútbol en la liga de "mayores de 40" en Guilderland, NY por muchos años. Si bien no era el corredor más rápido del equipo, Guillermo sabía cómo encontrar el lugar más apropiado para hacer goles increíbles; además de disfrutar las celebraciones que tenían después de los partidos sin importarle si habían ganado o no.

Luego de su jubilación, Guillermo y Blanca viajaron por muchos países alrededor del mundo incluyendo muchos viajes a Perú para visitar a sus familias. Les encantaba pasar los veranos en su casa del lago en Wynantskill, NY y los inviernos junto a la playa en Lauderdale-By-The Sea, FL. Su pasión eran las mejoras y renovación de inmuebles, su tienda favorita era Home Depot, donde conocía el plano de la tienda mejor que las personas que trabajaban ahí. La familia y los amigos siempre acudían a él en busca de consejos y sugerencias. Guillermo siempre será recordado como un excelente anfitrión en las fiestas de su casa, un master en la parrilla y todavía mejor preparando pisco sours.

En mayo del 2020, Guillermo fue diagnosticado con cáncer al páncreas, Guillermo peleó una batalla muy valiente contra esta terrible enfermedad por 10 meses. Un agradecimiento especial al personal del Instituto de Cancer Dana-Farber, en Boston, MA por su increíble atención y apoyo durante todo este tiempo. Un agradecimiento muy especial a la Dra. Sigurdis Haraldsdottir (Dra. Sisi), por su valiosa experiencia y dedicación para Guillermo y su familia. Por último, nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a la "sobrina" de Guillermo, la Dra. Stacy Cooper de Baltimore, MD, quien nos brindó orientación y consejos con mucho cariño durante esta jornada.

A Guillermo le sobreviven su esposa Blanca, su hijo Manuel y su nuera Rita de Golden, Colorado, y su hija Cecilia y su yerno Bill Cooper de North Andover, Massachusetts. Papa G será extrañado muchísimo por sus 5 nietos Amelia Ramos, Benson Manuel Cooper, Leo Guillermo Cooper, Antonio Ramos y Diego Ramos. Y no hay que olvidar su “compinche” Roderick “Rocky” Ramos, su mascota y compañero leal. La memoria de Guillermo será atesorada por sus hermanos, tíos, tías, primos, sobrinas, sobrinos y muchos amigos. Guillermo, nuestro querido Gallinazo, Galli, Guille, Memo, Papa G, big G, vivirá por siempre en nuestros corazones…Descansa en paz querido Guillermo!
