Heather Dawn James Staples

April 30, 1958 ~ May 3, 2020 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Tribute

Heather was the second child of Hugh and Ernie Allegra James, born in St. Ann, Jamaica.
In her early years, she attended Calvary Gospel Assembly in Kingston, and after moving to Mandeville, she attended the Immanuel Missionary Church. She was a graduate of The Queens High School in St Andrew, JA, and the Kingston School of Nursing.
After graduating, she worked in the Percy Junor Hospital in Clarendon, JA. and the Mandeville Hospital in Manchester, JA.

Heather was a uniquely gifted singer/soloist known throughout Jamaica for her powerful, soul-penetrating voice. Together with her cousins Joan and Pauline Rommell; and the Roomes brothers - David, Delroy, Donald and John, she made up the "Sound of Love" group which was celebrated island-wide. Throughout her life, all of her pastors (Cole - Calvary, Hanson-Immanuel, and Abrahamsen-Calvary) regarded her as their favorite soloist.

In 1987, she married her husband, Richard and eventually migrated to Hartford, CT, where she continued nursing at Hartford Hospital (Bliss 11-East) until her illness in 2005. In Hartford, she gave birth to her 3 children Jared, Sarah and Allena. They are her most enduring legacy.  She home schooled them for several years, dedicated to instill in them the values of faith, love of learning, and family. She was an active member at Calvary Church in West Hartford where she and Richard raised their family. She remained dedicated to serving at Calvary Church despite the challenges of her illness, teaching music for Vacation Bible School each summer and serving in Calvary West Hartford's AWANA children's program.

Heather is pre-deceased by her parents, her sisters Jennifer James, several aunts, and cousins and her beloved "Uncle Cliff" Hanson.  She leaves behind her husband and children, her sisters, Grace James and Dorothy Bygrave, and her brother Paul James as well as many close cousins and nieces and nephews.

Heather touched countless lives with her endurance, steadfast faith, and love. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by friends and family around the world.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
