James R. Casazza Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2019 in his apartment in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the age of 99.
He was born on April 2, 1920 in Hoboken, NJ to George and Carrie Casazza. He joined the Army at the beginning of WWII. He served in the 28th Infantry Division and was in many battles including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge and he participated in the liberation of Paris. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
Back from the war, he went to live in Pine Plains, NY and went to work for IBM for over 30 years as a corporate photographer and traveled the world - he sailed on the tall ships in 1976 from the Canary Islands into New York Harbor and he always remembered it as a thrill and great experience.
Full of energy, his motto was "if somebody can do it, I can." He taught himself carpentry and built beautiful furniture. He loved music and taught himself how to play the mandolin. Most of all he loved and needed to be active till his latest years - he spent many happy times in Italy with his wife, Teresa, where he had many dear friends.
Surviving are his wife, Teresa, daughters, Renee Bunting of Hackettstown, NJ, Susan Fox of Scottsdale, AZ, son, James Casazza Jr. of Raleigh, NC, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
There will be a private service honoring James's life at South Florida National Veterans Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
