James J. Fahy

James (Jim) Joseph Fahy passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was predeceased by parents Matthew Fahy and Mary Ellen (Molly) Fahy (née Porter), both of Galway, Ireland; twin brother Frank; and sister Anna (Nancy) Logger. He is survived by nieces Rosemary Blackburn (née Quinn) and Kate Fahy; and grand-niece Elizabeth Smith. 

Jim was born September 19, 1945 in New York City. He and siblings Frank and Nancy were raised in the Irish-American community of Inwood, in Manhattan, where they attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church and school. Upon graduation from high school, Jim became a brother with Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, through which he served as a missionary for many years in Africa and later, California. After returning to New York, Jim continued to serve the church and community through positions at the Church of St. Francis de Chantal and at AHRC, a non-profit serving people with developmental disabilities, both in Bronx, New York. Jim relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2017, where he volunteered with the Poverello Center, the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus, and other community groups. Throughout his life, Jim demonstrated devotion to his faith, his Irish heritage and the pursuit of community service. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at United Church of Christ, 2501 N.E. 30th Street, in Fort Lauderdale.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4595 Bayview Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Fllorida 33308.

Final interment will be at St. Raymond's Cemetery in Bronx, New York.
