Karen A. Bowman

Karen Bowman, age 70, passed away on January 23, 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after a nearly decade-long battle with cancer. She was born on July 30, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. Karen was predeceased by her father George Belitsos.

Karen was a CPA and eventual partner at RSM McGladrey in Fort Lauderdale for 40 years, where she received a number of awards and accolades. She touched and inspired an unimaginable amount of people in her time on earth. She built an incredible career and a wonderful network of friends; all while raising two boys.

Karen was first diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer eight years ago. Throughout the years that followed, she had the opportunity to retire and travel, dance with her son at his wedding, and meet her grandchildren, which meant the world to her.

Although she will be missed dearly, she will live on through those that she was closest to. Her values, kindness, intelligence, and sense of humor will be passed down through those fortunate enough to have known her.

Karen is survived by her husband Terry Baxter; her mother Dorothy Belitsos; her siblings James, Michael, Ted (Karen), and Dot Belitsos, her sons David and Michael (Susan) Bowman; her stepdaughters Amanda (Dennis) Ross, Anne (Tim) Fischer, and Leah (Jeff) Milot; and her nine grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 5:00 P.M- 7:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, Karen and her family have requested that charitable donations be made to United Way of Broward County or a pet rescue of your choice.

Karen’s family would also like to thank the Holy Cross Health staff for their wonderful care and support, as well as all of her family and friends who supported her through her journey.
