March 16, 1955 ~ February 12, 2024 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Layne Dallett Walls, 68, of Oakland Park, passed away on February 12, 2024, in Coral Springs.

Layne was born in Wilkinsburg, PA to Helen and Michael Dallett IV on March 16, 1955. In 1962, after spending the previous summer in South Florida, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale permanently. Layne met Mark Walls, her husband of 49 years, at Rickards Junior High School. In 1973, she graduated from Northeast High School where she was a cheerleader and involved in many student organizations. Layne and Mark married on November 30, 1974, at Aldersgate Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She earned her associate degree from Broward Community College where she was also a cheerleader. When her parents retired, she and her brother took over Aerko International, the family business, which they ran for over thirty years. In addition to being a small business owner, she was a fierce public servant. Layne was elected to the Oakland Park City Commission for 12.5 years (1993-1997, 2001 – 2010) where she served as Mayor three times (1995, 2004, 2008). Her passion for her community was evident through her commitment to various organizations and boards such as the General Employee Pension Plan Board, Charter Review Board, Civil Service Board, Complete Count Census Committee, Oakland Park Elementary PTA, School Advisory Board, Reopening of Rickards Middle School Committee, Northeast Backers Club, and the Oakland Park Kiwanis Club. She was an honorary member of Alpha Xi Delta where she was initiated in 2003.

Layne loved cheering on her Florida Marlins, Florida Gators, and UCF Knights. But her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She loved holidays and always decorated for every single one! She and Mark enjoyed taking road trips to visit various parts of the country and friends and family. Layne loved going on getaways with the NE Babes, her childhood friends.

Layne is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Michael Dallett IV.

Layne is survived by her husband, Mark, and their children, Julie (Jim) Krolak of Coral Springs, FL, Mark (Kelly) Walls, Jr. of Nashville, TN, and Carolyn (Benjamin) Coker of Orlando, FL, and her two grandchildren Thomas and Alice Krolak.
