Richard Charles Yeck

June 17, 1937 ~ February 21, 2024 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Richard “Dick” Yeck, a native of Albuquerque, NM, died on Feb. 21, 2024 in Florida.

He was born in 1937, the son of James Othello Yeck and Virginia Ann Seery. He was a 1955 graduate of Albuquerque High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of New Mexico, with a Bachelors in Geology and a minor in Engineering. He was commissioned into the US Navy and served 22 years as a Cryptologic Officer. In 1967 he married Ann Nocito, with whom he had two children. He served another 22 years as a systems engineer/ defense contractor with General Dynamics. After a divorce and retirement, he returned to Albuquerque and served the community in several capacities, including as a volunteer for the Bureau of Land Management, cataloging and leading sightseeing tours of Native American petroglyph art, and for the Friends of Paleontology, writing articles on dinosaur fossils found in the vast NM landscape. He won three medals in the New Mexico Senior Olympics, for ballroom dance, cycling, and discus. He succumbed to Alzheimer’s after battling the disease for ten years.

He is survived by Ann Yeck Frank, Dana Cahn Gordon (Ken), Glenn Yeck, and three grandchildren.

He will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque in the spring of 2024.
