Robert Joseph Boyle, 91, of Lowell, MA., and Fort Lauderdale, FL, died after a brief illness on Saturday, March 20, 2021 in Florida. He was the widower of Jeanette M. (Dionne) Boyle who passed away on May 19, 2005 after nearly 50 years of marriage.
He was born on January 27, 1930, in Lowell, son of the late Thomas E. Boyle Sr. and the late Jean (Bourk) Boyle. He grew up in Lowell and attended Saint Patrick’s School, Keith Academy and Lowell High School.
He began his career after high school, becoming a Mason and forming REX General Construction, Inc. with his wife, Jeannette from a small bedroom in their Westview Road home, before opening an office on Dutton Street. Later he and his wife went on to construct and operate much of the Greater Lowell area nursing homes, including Palm Manor, Bay State Rehabilitation Center, Littleton House, and Country View Nursing home to name a few. They operated these facilities until their retirement.
He was a very proud man, proud of his family as well as his and their accomplishments; he was also a very giving person. He loved to help others in any way that he could. He and his wife would often make donations without the recipients even knowing of these gifts, and would never want anything in return.
He spent much of his time on his boat Arcturus, he loved traveling from the Yacht Club in Cambridge to Pier 66 Hotel and Marina in Fort Lauderdale. He and his family made this journey many times over the years, and have many fond memories of time spent on Arcturus.
In his retirement, he continued to be involved with other business ventures. He assisted his son and daughter in starting and operating multiple successful businesses in southern Florida.
He, along with Jeanette were dedicated communicants of St. Patrick’s Church, they both volunteered for the church whenever they could. He would often help with construction projects, and she loved helping out at bingo. He was a longtime resident of the Highland’s, and more recently divided his time between Lowell and Fort Lauderdale. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, and great granddaughter Emma.
He is survived by his three children, Roberta Ann Boyle of Lowell, Edward J. Boyle and his wife Susan of Davie, FL, and Maria Ann (Boyle) Burgun and her husband John of Plantation, FL. He leaves his grandchildren; Ashley Maria Boyle, Brandon Burgun, Kody Boyle, and Bailey Burgun, his great granddaughter, Emma, his sister, Gail MacDonald of Lowell, brother Gary and his wife Edna Boyle of Seabrook, NH. The family would like to extend special thanks to Marie Marthe Dugat of Plantation, FL, and his late friend Arthur Notini of Lowell.
