Tribute

In Loving Memory of Robert Gene David

Robert Gene David, 84, peacefully entered the arms of our Lord on February 1, 2024.

Bob, affectionately known as Bobby to his family and old friends, is now joyfully reunited in heaven with his parents, George and Nel David, and his brother Ronald David. He is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Lorette Hoke David; his daughters, Leah Jordan and Monna Smith; his niece, Jennifer Whitehead; and nephew, Christopher David.

Born in Miami on July 23, 1939, Bob was proud of his Lebanese heritage and his deep Miami roots. His early education took place at Coral Gables Elementary, Shenandoah Middle School, and Miami High School. His journey then led him to the University of Florida and into the US Army.

As a professional, he had a fulfilling career as an architect. Bob served as the Director of Planning for both the City of Miami Beach and the City of Coral Gables. His talents were instrumental in the establishment of the historic district in Miami Beach and in the development of several ports, including Port Manatee. A highlight of his career was serving as principal of David & David Architects, a design firm founded by his parents that resided on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach for over 60 years.

More importantly, Bob was a devoted husband to his wife and soulmate, Lorette. Their love knew no bounds as they explored the world in search of antique maps, volunteered on the Library Board, savored Cuban coffee on Miami's streets, and delighted in late-night treats from Dandee Donuts. Bob's free spirit and unbridled curiosity led him to experience all things unique, and Lorette was his constant companion on these adventures.

Whether conversing with a server at Joe’s Cafe or Nelson’s Diner, sharing fish stories with fellow anglers, reminiscing and joking with family, or lunching with lifelong elementary school buddies, Bob's warmth and kindness touched everyone he encountered. A devoted Christian, Bob never hesitated to share the gifts of the Holy Spirit and his love of our Lord with others. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Bob will be dearly missed by his beloved cousins, lifelong and recent friends, members of his church, and the community he deeply influenced.

His eternal journey he has begun. May he rest in peace.
