Roger Bond died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 9, 1936, in West Palm Beach to Gene and Mary Bond.
His family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1939. In 1954, Roger graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School, and went on to attend the University of Florida before graduating from Florida Southern College (Lakeland). For four years, he served in the United States Army and qualified as an expert rifleman. He began his insurance career with Aetna Property and Casualty and later became an independent insurance agent. He was the founding member of Cypress Insurance Group. Roger was extremely dedicated to his business partners, his clients, and especially his staff. Many of his staff worked for him for over twenty years, and he referred to them as his “Cypress family.” He worked hard to treat his staff and clients with fairness and respect, and always sought to bring a smile to their faces with his humor. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist for over thirty years. Like his father, Roger was strongly committed to his local community. He generously devoted his time to serve on many civic and private sector boards. He was a private pilot, and near the end of his life he would sit outside on a beautiful day and say he wished he could be flying. He enjoyed golf with his friends at Coral Ridge Country Club, boating with his neighbors from The Landings, and especially enjoyed time with his family. He loved Florida Gators and UCF football. He was beloved by those who met him and had an infectious smile that could help bring levity to any situation. He was an incredibly generous man. He will be remembered by his family, friends, and staff for his love of life.
He is survived by his wife Terry Bond, his children Marion Corsaro (Tom), Robert Bond (Janet), Dean Bond, Reid Bond (Sadie), five grandchildren, and his former wife, Carol Bond Tama.
