Rosetta DePaola

February 19, 1948 ~ October 10, 2021 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

Rosetta “Rose” DePaola, 73, passed away Sunday October 10, 2021 surrounded by her children.

Rosetta was born February 19, 1948 in Castel Grande, Italy to Philomena and Gerardo DeSantis, as the oldest of two children. She grew up in Italy until she was twelve years old when she made the trip to America alongside her cousin Giovanni.

Rosetta married her long time love Alfonso (Mario) DePaola in January 1967. The couple lived and welcomed their two children in Schenectady, NY, where Rosetta worked as a clerical secretary at St Claire’s Hospital. Rosetta and her husband built a home in Latham, NY at which time she transferred to the Cohoes Hospital Emergency Room. In 1979 they moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey so Alfonso could help to open restaurants in the Playboy Casino Hotel. This move transferred Rosetta to Atlantic City Medical Center. The family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1988 where Rosetta worked at Imperial Point Medical Center, same day surgery, for twenty nine years. She held this position until her retirement in 2016, creating many deep and lasting friendships with her coworkers.

Rosetta enjoyed spending her summers in New Jersey with her grandchildren and sister. She spent her weekend mornings drinking coffee and endlessly chatting with her sister and cousins on the telephone. Rosetta loved a good book and enjoyed passing on a great recommendation even more. As Rosetta’s husband was a chef by trade, she would never let that dull her culinary abilities. We will forever miss her cooking especially her meatballs, brasciole, tiramisu, and chicken noodle soup.

Rosetta is predeceased by her mother Philomena DeSantis, husband Alfonso DePaola, and sister Alba DiCarlo. She is survived by her son Giovanni DePaola, daughter Carmela Freund (Michael), Brother in Law Felice DiCarlo, nieces Carmina Velton (Tony), Lisa DiCarlo, granddaughters Krista Simone (Matthew), Alexandra Freund, great grandsons Maddox and Miller Simone, as well as many beloved family members in Italy and the United States.

A viewing will be held from 9-10am on Saturday October 16th, with a Mass following at 10am, at Holy Trinity Parish: Epiphany Church in Longport, New Jersey.

Burial will be private at a later date.
