Stella Ann Cruise Standring (Marino), 92, of Pompano Beach and Naples Florida passed away at Holy Cross Hospital on November 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of James Paul Cruise for 37 years and John “Jack” Standring for 16 years.
Born on November 29, 1927 in Boston, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Marino and beloved sister to Vincenza “Lee” Mangiaratti, Leonard “Leo” Marino and Daniel Marino.
Stella was the devoted mother of the late Stephen Cruise (Sheila,) Denise Raney (Jeff,) Nancy Struzziero (Paul) and loving stepmother and step grandmother to the wonderful Standring family.
Lovingly known as” Nana” and “Great Nana Stella”, she was the devoted grandmother of Andrew Rechnitz (Joanna), Brian Cruise (Ruth), Michael Rechnitz (Lindsay), Jeffrey Cruise (Katie), Kirsten Rechnitz, Mathew Struzziero (Nadine), Alexandra Struzziero, and great grandmother of Jameson Rechnitz, Greyson Rechnitz, Stella Rechnitz, Annabel Rechnitz, Daniel Cruise and Colton Struzziero.
Stella graduated from Boston University and worked in retail as an Assistant Buyer for Filene’s. She raised her children in Medford Massachusetts, and was an avid golfer, reader and seamstress. Stella loved to entertain her family and friends and passed that special talent on to her daughters and grandchildren. She moved to Florida in the late 80’s and spent much of her time volunteering at Naples Community Hospital and fundraising for her Church. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life and loved being a Eucharistic Minister. She continued to live with great spirit and joy until her final days. Above all, she instilled in all of us that family always came first. Stella was a loving wife, mother, nana and great nana whose presence will remain in our hearts forever.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Monday, November 25th at 11:00 AM, located at 731 North Ocean Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.
A burial service for Stella will take place in Boston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
