Teresita Gutierrez

Teresita Gutierrez, age 81, of Parkland, Florida passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

Teresita Gutierrez was born in Cairbarien, Cuba in 1941. She attended Catholic schools and college in Cuba. She had two siblings, Luis Larralde and Lourdes Puentes, both now deceased. Teresita met the love of her life and married Francisco Javier Gutierrez in Cuba in September 26, 1962, and had her first daughter Carmen Edelson in 1965.

She moved to the New Jersey from Cuba in 1969 aboard the Freedom Flights.  She had a second daughter Teresita M Gutierrez in NJ in 1970.  She worked in a coat factory for 15 years, and as a teacher's aide for many years. Her husband of 33 years, Francisco Javier Gutierrez passed away in 1995.

She dedicated years of her life as a single mom caring for her younger daughter Teresita M Gutierrez, who had special needs. 

In 2021, she moved to Fort Lauderdale with her daughter Teresita to live near her daughter Carmen and grand-daughter Ariana. In Florida, she worked for years at Walmart in the gardening department and then as a greeter.

Teresita moved back to NJ in 2012 to be closer to the family and stayed there until 2021 when she returned to Ft Lauderdale.

She is survived by children Carmen Edelson (John Edelson), and Teresita M Gutierrez; and grandchildren Ariana Tottenhoff.
