Vasilios Papadimitriou

Vasilios Papadimitriou, age 83, a longtime resident of Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 5, 2023.



He was born on September 29, 1939 in Thebes, Greece. Raised in Athens, Greece, he took a chance at the American dream and immigrated to Queens, New York in 1970, soon meeting Alexandra, the love of his life. They were married in 1971. Tiring of the harsh New York winters and wanting to be near family, Vasilios and Alexandra moved with their two young daughters to Oakland Park, Florida in 1978, eight years later adding a son. Together, and for the next 38 years, they operated a successful automotive repair business.



He enjoyed spending time with and entertaining family and friends, staying busy with his beautiful garden, fixing things around the house, and passionately watching his favorite sports teams. He taught his children the importance of family, education, and working hard to achieve their goals. He was an excellent role model of immigrating to this country without money or knowing the language, and succeeding as a small business owner.



Vasilios is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Alexandra; his sister Vasiliki; daughter, Amalia and husband Christopher, and their daughter Alexandra; Vasiliki and husband Alberto, and their sons Marco and Christian; and son Dimitri, as well as many nieces and nephews.



Visitation will be held Monday, January 9 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Baird-Case Jordan Fannin Funeral Home, 4343 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308, followed by a funeral on Tuesday, January 10 at 10:30 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 820 NE 14th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304.
