On October 18, 2017, the angels gained a loving partner, great friend and mentor, brilliant attorney, die-hard Gators fan, vodka aficionado, fantasy football genius and sports car enthusiast. Charles B. Shields, Jr. ("Chuck") died unexpectedly in his home, which he shared with Thomas Keenan, his loving partner of 9 years. Chuck was 43.
Chuck was a Partner in the Boca Raton office of Duane Morris LLP. Specializing in the area of wealth planning, Chuck was a very accomplished lawyer and was professionally active in a number of estate planning and related organizations. He was currently President of the Broward County Estate Planning Council. Within Duane Morris, Chuck was an active member of the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Chuck was also very active as a Board Member with Our Fund, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to philanthropic issues within the LGBT community both in South Florida and nationwide.

Chuck was a proud graduate (with Honors) of the University of Florida and of its Law School, including an LL.M. in Taxation, and he was an ardent supporter of the University of Florida Gators football team. Another great passion of Chuck’s was sports cars, particularly his prized, custom-built 2017 Corvette.

Chuck had a wonderful personality. He was a friend to all, always concerned about his friends and colleagues, with a wonderful and lighthearted sense of humor. At the same time, Chuck was serious and studious when it came to the legal issues on which he was working for his clients.

Chuck is survived by his partner, Thomas Keenan, and his mother, Gloria Shields, and was predeceased by his father, Charles B. Shields.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be scheduled at a later date.
