Ed was an original. From his carpet based filing system, to his booming voice in lieu of a speaker phone, there was never a doubt that he had a presence, in a big way. He had a sharp legal mind, and a good sense of humor. He took the quirks and irregularities of his job in stride and wasn't afraid of a day in court or queries from Board members seated on the dais of the School Board. In addition to his Official duties, he did many things for the community behind the scenes... the Nova Law School, Fort Lauderdale High School. All thankless efforts for which he neither needed or sought praise. He just did it because it needed to be done, and he could.
If he liked you, and I was one of the lucky ones, he could regale you with stories. The "What" (subject) of the stories was never as important as the "How" (delivery)..... He moved close to you, spoke softly and crinkled up his eyes in a smile. Your could tell he enjoyed sharing his experiences. I will surely miss him, and his calls, even after his official retirement, when he opened a consultancy- which I joined as much out of respect to him as for the potential to secure a contract or two- and his commitment to his beloved Hurricanes.

Ed was a fantastic advocate for our district. The many school board members he represented were very well served. I learned a lot from Ed and his lessons will always live on with me.
