Rosalie Y. Malkoon, age 77, passed away on December 7, 2017. She was born on April 14, 1940 in Aleppo, Syria to Marie and Yusuf Shammas. As a young girl, her family moved back to Beirut, Lebanon. There she lived an amazing story book life. She later graduated from the Lebanese American University (LAU) with a Bachelors in Social Work and English, and began her teaching career. She moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1968 where she met her husband, Frederick G. Malkoon, and resided in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea until her death. Although Arabic was her first language and spoke French, she taught English and Math to middle school students in Broward County and later earned her M.Ed. from Florida Atlantic University. After the death of her husband, she raised their two children, continued his real estate business, and developed a passion for selling real estate. As a successful Broker, she served on committees and was an active member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Board of Realtors. She was also a very active and cherished member of her community. Later in life, she went back to school to pursue a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. She was the ultimate optimist and anyone she met became a friend for life. She is survived by her heartbroken children: daughter, Maria (Malkoon) Cammarata (son in law Franco Cammarata) and son, Edmund Malkoon; her adoring grandchildren Alec, Gabrielle and Stefen Cammarata; her loving sisters, Sana Shammas Fadem, Zuha Ghazal, Mona Shammas and brother, Nabil Shammas. The family will receive friends, on Tuesday, December 12th. from 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., at the Baird Case Jordan Fannin Funeral Home, 4343 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 13th. at 10:00 a.m., at Heart of Jesus Maronite Rite Church, 1800 NE 6th. Court, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304. Interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, N. Lauderdale, FL.
